Planning Remit Survey Results are in!

17 June 2021      Monica Madeley, Projects and Engagement Officer

In our ongoing quest to help answer the question “What do planners do?” we are delighted to reveal the results of our biannual planning remit survey.

The aim of this survey is to gather information about strategy and planning work in the higher education sector; the breadth of work which is undertaken, the numbers of staff involved and the way that different institutions approach and manage this.

It’s worth stressing that these results relate to the 2020 survey, and that it took longer and response rates were slightly lower this time due to the impact of the pandemic. However, we still had a very good response rate of 89 institutions. Anonymity was also removed this time and this was made clear in the survey itself and in all related communications, so that any respondents not wishing to be detailed could abstain (another possible reason for the slightly lower response rate, though we don’t have evidence to support this despite asking the question). With this in mind, we would ask that you keep this within your institutions and don’t share more widely across the sector.

Huge thanks to Sally Turnbull, Christine Couper and Neil Davidson for their help in analysing the survey data and pulling out key pieces of information to create this additional powerpoint report, which summarises key points.

We’ll be running another survey in 2022, so any feedback on this one and the way in which results are being shared is very much appreciated.
