HESPA Annual Conference 2022

Planning 2.0 Data demands of the new world

The theme this year was all about next generation planning and data demands of the new world, including how to manage the new data landscape, tertiary review outputs and new regulatory requirements, but also how we can harness the power of data to make change happen, and work towards solving some of the big issues of our time.

How can we measure the effectiveness of new learning mechanisms? Are we facing new data requirements to support positive changes being made in EDI, climate change, graduate employability, and other current challenges? How can we exploit new data requirements for maximum impact? How do we strategise and plan amid fundamental changes to business models? These are but a few of the questions we delved into.

Planning 2.0: Data demands of the new world brought higher education colleagues together to discuss, debate, challenge, share and learn. As we saw last year, despite the virtual nature of the conference, it was still a great opportunity to network and catch-up with old friends, as well as making new ones. We again ran with an institution-wide ticket model, and this is something we really want to promote again to ensure that you are getting the best possible value for yourself, your colleagues and your institution. We actively wish to encourage cross-departmental engagement to enhance systems, processes and better working practice, and to forge valuable links and relationships which we hope will continue far past the event itself.

With a mixed programme, including plenaries, workshops, business sessions, speed networking and awards, we believe that there was something for everyone. Sessions are not strictly strategic planning-related (whatever that might be – our most recent Planning Remit Survey responses continue to illustrate the breadth and depth of strategy and planning work that goes on in the sector). We were delighted to offer PHES-wide sessions from our partner SIOs and beyond, and their members were welcome too, so when we say ‘institutional access’ we really mean it.
